Maid of Honour Speeches – Where Do You Start?

February 28th, 2010 admin No comments

I was asked to be a maid of honour for my friend Claire’s wedding.  I didn’t know where to begin because I hadn’t heard any maid of honour speeches before.  In fact I must admit that when I first realised that I had to give a maid of honor speech it came as a bit of a shock actually.  I didn’t really know what the maid of honour duties were or that giving a speech would be part of them.

Where Do You Start Planning Your Maid of Honour Wedding Speeches?

I didn’t know where to start with my maid fo honor toast.  It seemed like there was lots of information on the internet and in books about the grooms wedding speech but not for the wedding toast that I had to give.  That was one of the reasons I created this site to help other maid of honurs in the same position I was in.  Therefore, as you have found this site you should not have the same problem that I had with finding useful information on maid of honor wedding speeches.  I hope that you will find the information here really useful to you and that you too will create a beautiful maid of honor toast for the bride.

Maid of Honor Toasts – Basics

February 28th, 2010 admin No comments

I remember that when I first realised that I would have to give a maid of honor speech I was absolutlely terrified.  I wasn’t used to giving any speeches let alone maid of honour speeches and I was so scared about the thought of having to stand up to give a wedding speech.

Buy yourself a notebook

I remember that the first thing I did was to go out and buy a small notebook.  This notebook was to be the bulding block to how I created the wonderful wedding speech that so many complimented me on later.  I sat down and began to jot down a few memories of the bride.  We had been to school together and so we had known each other for many years and been very good friends for all of them.  Therefore, I found it really easy to write down in my wedding notebook the memories that I had of the bride.  Some of these memories were funny, some were quite sad.  I must admit that I did cry a few times thinking back to those times but I wanted to capture some of those sentimental touches to my maid of honor wedding speech.  I think that this was one of the secrets to creating a ‘beautiful speech’ (as described by one of the guests).

I actually carried the notebook around with me everywhere I went.  Whenever I had a few spare minutes I would try to remember something relevant or something that we shared and write this in my book.  Also, if anything popped into my mind that I thought would help my maid of honor speech.

My maid of honour speech was beginning to take shape.  Obviously everyone’s maid of honour speeches will be different but I think that it is helpful to approach your maid of honor speech in the same way I did, i.e by creating a notebook of ideas.

Other Wedding Day Speeches

I think that it is important to think about the other wedding toasts that will be made on the wedding day and the order of those speeches.  For example, remember that there will be father of the bride speech and a groom speech.  Of course there will also be a funny best man speech as well.  Most are funny but I guess not all will be.  You will probably fit in at some point between these although the exact place where you will give your wedding toast is perhaps best decided by the bride and groom.  If you think there will be something obvious that either the groom, best man or father of the bride will say then perhaps it’s best to leave that out of your maid of honour speeches.

How To Ruin Your Maid of Honour Speech

March 24th, 2010 admin No comments

When making your maid of honour wedding speech there is one thing that can really ruin your wedding toast like nothing else.  That is the consumption of too much alcohol.   It is very easy to think that drinking alcohol will help your wedding speech but it can actually seriously damage it.

You might have planned your speech really well and on the wedding day think that you will just have one or two drinks to make your maid of honor wedding speech go more smoothly.  I wouldn’t say do not drink altogether but I would certainly advise you to monitor carefully exactly how much you have before standing up to give your toast.  If you are in any doubt then I would say avoid it all together until after you have given your speech.

What you don’t want is for your maid of honor wedding speech to be remembered for your drunken performance.  Even if you’re not completely inebriated a little too much drink can cause slurring of words and certainly affect your concentration.

Remember that if you have planned your wedding day speech then do not worry about it and don’t think that drinking a lot before giving your speech will improve it or make it easier.  You will only regret it afterwards and so too will the bride and guests.

Maid of Honour Speeches – Giving An Excellent Speech

March 31st, 2010 admin No comments

So you have been asked to be a maid of honour and you have realised that maid of honour wedding speeches are something that you will have to give.

I remember when I was asked to be a maid of honour. I was excited but then I learned about maid of honour speeches and that I would have to give one at my friend’s wedding. No doubt you are now in the situation of planning your maid of honor wedding speech or perhaps your matron of honour speeches.

There are a few simple steps you can take that will make you wedding speech brilliant.

If you want to make your maid of honour speech much easier to write then having lots of examples can be a huge help. For an ebook that makes your maid of honour speech easier to write click here.

Maid of Honour Speeches Wedding Notebook

In an earlier post I spoke about how when I was asked to be a maid of honor for my friend I felt extremely overwhelmed by the thought of giving a maid of honor wedding speech. I didin’t know where to start. However, as I said earlier the first thing I did which proved to be really helpful to me was getting myself a notebook. I wrote down memories that I had of the bride and also ideas that I had whilst I was out and about because I kept the notebook with me at all times so that it was handy. If you haven’t already got yourself a notebook then I would get one as soon as you can and start writing down some memories.

Plan Your Wedding Speech Early

It is never too early to start planning your wedding speech. The earlier the better. Do not leave your matron of honor speech or maid of honor toast until the last minute. You will have more time to tweak your wedding speach if you start early and you can ensure that it will be the best it can be. You will also be able to learn the maid of honor speech and practice it more the earlier you complete it and therefore you will feel much more at ease when you eventually deliver it.

Click Here for a complete how-to-guide that will show you how to give a brilliant maid of honour speech

Read Your Speech To A Friend (But Not The Bride)

This is something that I did and it was really helpful. Be careful about the friend that you choose to read your speech to and you can gain some really helpful advice as well as additions and amendments for the wedding toast. If you want funny maid of honour speeches then your friend, depending on their own sense of humour, can be really helpful in letting you know whether something is funny or indeed tasteful.

Don’t worry about Nerves

This is easier said than done but try not to worry too much about nerves. If you have prepared early and read your speech and even learned the speech by the time you have to deliver it then you should be absolutely fine on the wedding day when you give your speech. Remember that some nerves are helpful and it makes it a little more livelier and endearing.

Speak Clearly & Slowly

Finally, try to speak clearly and don’t rush your maid of honor wedding speech. Just take your time. Take a good look at the audience too making good eye contact when you deliver it.

If you follow these simple steps then you will be well on your way to obtaining an excellent maid of honour or matron of honour wedding speech.

The Ultimate Guide to Best Man’s Speeches and Toasts – With

The Ultimate Guide to Best Man's Speeches and Toasts - With

Weddings are one of the most important events in a person’s life. It is a day that marks a union of two souls into one, where the couple takes vows and binds their love for each other. The wedding day is magical and special, ad the feeling that the couple to be married go through, is completely out of the world. Preparation for this day begins weeks and months prior to the big day.

Both the bride and groom’s special friends are mostly appointed to fulfill each and every responsibilities and preparations. Like the bride has her bride’s maids and maid of honor to support, and help her through it all, the groom has groom’s men and his Best Man. They are the ones who take all the responsibilities. There is no doubt that being a Best Man is usually the groom’s best friend. But in some cases he can also be the person who is close to him. He plays a very vital role for making the wedding a success.

He is like an anchor, who keeps the sailing ship in place, like the captain of a ship, directing and maintaining schedules and plans. He is like glue that sticks till the end. The Best Man is given the responsibility of making the wedding speech. So, he must put in a lot of effort to make the best speech for the success and get applauded too. This is no normal or regular speech; it has to be an Oscar winning speech. All eyes would be glued to you and your speech would make the groom look good, so you can’t afford to lose on that, at least!

A wedding speech goes along with the toast to the newly weds. The speech does not mean a lecture, so stick to short and meaningful one. Take maximum of 2 minutes and not more than that because people are more eager to see the first dance of the newly weds, eat the cake and enjoy the champagne. You don’t want to bore them with your long speech, and lectures are not meant for the occasion.

The speech of the best man is an important part of any wedding ceremony, and is remembered for years after the special day is over. The speech traditionally is meant to honor the groom but you should not forget the bride and congratulate them together. As a best man, you have been given the position of distinction of honor and responsibility.
